11. It's a myth about the 'law-abiding' GQP of the 70s.

Some of them cared about law and the rest, while some were just as much party über alles as the current crop.

Most people don't know or don't remember all the nasty things GQP did back then to protect their guy. Example: Howard Baker was reporting every detail of the Senate Committee investigating Watergate to Nixon, for nearly all of his time on that committee. The media was later complicit in whitewashing his slimy maneuverings because they misinterpreted his 'what did he know and when did he know it?' query to John Dean. He was trying to establish that Nixon was unaware of what was happening, but it was Dean's answer that changed America forever. Not Baker's slithering apologia attempt.
