"In control" and then would simultaneously allow for his handlers to sedate him to the point that he can't control his own bodily functions in a situation where his freedom is at stake. It just doesn't make sense.
I'm thinking that he's more likely suffering from a rebound effect brought on by a reduction in his Adderall* dosage. If he's not getting enough to keep him up, as the drug wears off, the rebound would be excessive sleepiness.
That combined with an exacerbation of the dementia would make it very difficult to stay alert without having some substance to help.
*or whatever stimulant he may have been prescribed for his rumored ADHD or whatever substance he has been abusing to stay jacked throughout his adulthood.
