(2,157 posts)I have also been told the same about the castles. Most personality disorders can be treated to the point where even if it doesn't go away completely, you can function at a fairly normal level.
Narcissistic personality disorder, however, is an exception primarily because the person thinks they are perfectly fine, and there is absolutely no need for treatment. They of course aren't, but they will never be convinced differently.
There is also temporary psychosis which can happen to people who struggle with recurrent depression, which is normally considered a neurosis! If the depression gets to a severe enough state they can fall into a psychosis stage, but that can usually be treated with a med prescription or a change in meds, if the person is already in treatment but no longer responding to their current regime.
Trump's is not temporary from the opinion most of my own treatment team whom I've asked. They always qualify it with they can not offer an official diagnosis since they aren't treating him. They can only say his behavior is typical of Narcissistic PD.
I have severe recurrent depression which is treatable which makes me very lucky, even if it is not completely curable.
