We cant be a democracy because of our parties name The Democratic party so we must be a republic because republicans!! Of course they say this not having a clue that there are different types of republics and one of those different types is a democratic republic as opposed to a Confederal republics a Federal republics or even a Islamic republic. Just effin stupid as bog water.
