My passport proves citizenship.
The only other question I'd answer would be "are you bringing anything back?" The other questions would get "5th amendment right to remain silent" answers or snide ones if they started getting aggressive.
One time at Nogales, the guy got in my face and screamed at me "you will tell me where you live." I calmly responded "in about an hour part of my will be living in your wife's pussy." Another screamed "I hate Americans. They always cause problems here." I responded "because we know our rights."
Submitting to authoritarianism "where are your papers" questions is wrong. It's not my requirement to help them with their investigation in anyway. If hey suspect I am illegally here with a thick NYC accent, prove it. Until then, I exercise my 5th amendment right to remain silent and have "that god damned piece of paper" (you know, what W called it) to back me up. It's that paper these green uniform wearing fascists took an oath the protect.
