(38,804 posts)The primary is an opportunity to send a message that you are not happy with a candidate - especially if the outcome of the primary is a foregone conclusion. It does not inherently mean that you are unhappy enough that you will not show up and vote for him in November.
I considered not voting in the presidential race in our Primary because I am extremely unhappy with his Mideast policy, and with my tax dollars going to buy weapons used in Gaza. I don't recall what I actually decided to do. But even if I did, there is no way I would have stayed home or voted for Trump, or a third party candidate in November.
I think voting against Trump in the primary has less chance of working than not voting for Biden in the primary (which seems to be impacting his Middle East policy). But assuming they won't ultimately vote for Trump is a dangerous assumption.
