But if the audience in question is the *press* and not the American public, then it makes sense for him to look at the reporters instead of the camera (yes — regardless of any speech/debate/conference he's been a part of in previous years).

He was not "speaking to the nation" ("nation" as in average Americans) in that speech, he was speaking to the press. Maybe — maybe — it would've resonated more with at least one average American if he looked at the camera, but in the midst of all that was going on at the time, him looking away from the camera seemed fairly insignificant in comparison to other (real or perceived) issues being talked about. Bordering on absurdity, almost.

I'm really not trying to make fun of you as a poster. I promise. I enjoy a lot of your posts. Nothing is personal at all. I just thought that specific post was a little funny, so it's one of the more memorable posts (to me) I've read all week.
