(7,625 posts)In a land far, far away was a kingdom.
The King's name was Joseph, and the court jester's name was Donald.
The King ruled the land with a fair hand, but a lot of the peasants who mostly toiled the land and built the roads and the houses, resented the King for they saw the nice clothes the King and his followers wore, and the nice houses they lived in.
The King's castle was for all to see, a mockery to their lowly dwellings.
They looked at their own lives and thought about it, when was it their turn to wear nice clothes and live in nice houses?
So the peasants became resentful.
And the court jester saw that, and started to make up rude and exaggerated stories about the King, and the peasants saw it was good and asked for more.
The court jester was encouraged by this and the stories became more extreme and highly critical of the King.
Then came the time the King wanted the job no more, and chose to abdicate.
He wanted the people to choose his replacement, to be fair to them.
The court jester suggested he could do the job of King much better. So he put his name forward.
Would the people choose a smart and wise man to be the next king, or were they so taken in by the court jester and his lies that the next king would be him?
Now go to sleep little child, we will have the answer soon enough!
(Teller of the tale goes off to check if his passport is still current, just in case.)
