(11,202 posts)Fear of big scary minority cities is real in small towns. Hell, I had to inform my Mom's dental receptionist in freaking Salt Lake City (which has its own dicey areas) that Chicago is not a big war zone tent city full of minority immigrants. Explained there is a reason Trump, and others in big businesses, invest their money in these cities (think Trump Towers, etc.) for the wealthy that live and work in those cities and rarely invest money in small rural towns where they have nothing to gain financially. That yes, Chicago, like all big cities, has areas less safe than others. That big city taxpayers and blue States largely pay for the infrastructure to maintain and serve sparsely populated red areas.
Many young adults (including unfortunately currently my son) are disappointed Biden didn't magically solve all of the world's problems yet. My son will not be voting for Trump, but is considering not voting for Biden.
The expectation was Biden would be able to at least hold his own in the debate. He did not. Many are lead to believe if you can't stand up to ridiculously obviously lying 78 yo Trump, how can you stand up to those that want to do the US harm? Of course Trump is no match for Putin and being President is not like a WWF match, but many would prefer to cheer for the guy that looks like a winner.
Trump has not picked a Veep yet. That will be important as Trump will, no doubt, continue his tangential ranting, lying, and word salads (windmills, low flow showers and toilets, bare grocery store shelves that have actually been fully stocked since COVID, public hanging of people like Liz Cheney, cage match fights pitting immigrants against each other, mass deportations of workers that Americans depend on, etc.). That could make a difference.
