Yes, Peter Tork was perhaps the most accomplished musician at the time. Nesmith was a better songwriter, but Tork new how to jam on the guitar. Davey knew nothing, he was just there because he was cute. Mickey had to learn how to play the drums for the gig, but his voice was golden. They virtually went on strike in order to put out Headquarters, the first album featuring mostly their own music.
