(39,094 posts)doesn't harm anyone. I believe if he didn't have possession of a gun maybe he would have just got angry and raised his voice or maybe punched his girlfriend. I highly doubt he would have gone and clubbed himself to death with a baseball bat or gassed himself with his car exhaust in front of his coach. But like I said I don't know how you would stop such things unless you did away with all handguns. Apparently Bob Costas thinks handguns should be outlawed, that's his opinion I have no problem with that at all. He has a right to his opinion and we have the right to disagree. I have known several cases where people I know murdered someone or killed themselves and without the ready availability of a gun I doubt all of them would have carried out the act. I'll give you one example. Two guys I worked with got drunk one afternoon after work back in the 70's and decided they were going to shoot a black guy. They drive down the street and shoot the first one they see, a 17 year old high school kid walking home from school. Now if they didn't have a gun what do really think the odds would be they would have gotten out of the car and killed the boy with a baseball bat or a rock?
