To a certain kind of person, he has always been utterly charming, especially when he was younger. His psychological profile has been known for at least a decade — it’s called the Dark Triad, and is a poisonous combination of Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy. (below)

He’s given the MAGAs permission to hate and to be violent, and they love this about him. The Jan. 6 insurrection was his brainchild, and he was all in for the idea of having the Capitol awash in blood. His will to power and violence know no bounds. He draws people to him who share his traits — not just the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, but the intellectual brain trust: Bannon, Gorka, Miller, and all the authors of Project 2025.

All three dark triad traits are conceptually distinct although empirical evidence shows them to be overlapping. They are associated with a callous–manipulative interpersonal style.

Narcissism is characterized by grandiosity, pride, egotism, and a lack of empathy.
Machiavellianism is characterized by the manipulation and exploitation of others, indifference to morality, lack of empathy, and a calculated focus on self-interest.
Psychopathy is characterized by continuous antisocial behavior, impulsivity, selfishness, callous and unemotional traits (CU), and remorselessness.
High scores in these traits have been found to statistically increase a person's likelihood to commit crimes, cause social distress, and create severe problems for organizations, especially if they are in leadership positions

I have called him and his ruling cohort cockroaches many times (by myself at home), but then I grew up in a subtropical area. They’re disgusting and disease-bearing, but they are also adaptable and are survivors from eons ago, and will likely outlive our age as well. The only thing to do with them is take off your shoe and crush them when they show up — and in the case of the human moral equivalent, figure out how to quash their toxic and dangerous ideas when they show up as well. They will never, never be fully eliminated.
