(4,318 posts)Not just in others, it's working on me. If I focus on his weirdness I'm not focusing on his being evil and dangerous, so I'm calmer and more rational. My anxiety has come down a few notches. Plus I'm sure it'll help me talk to my conservative family members without getting uptight and losing it.
It's such a good under-the-radar technique. Because it has a cool meaning as well as an uncool meaning, it doesn't bring out the automatic self-justification and rejection of that frame for the public, even MAGA. Not that they like it, but there's nothing to get hostile about. Yet the very uncool, creepy meaning is lurking there below the surface of their consciousness. I guarantee they're turning the word over in their minds, wondering about it and the many ways we're expanding on just how he and Vance are weird, abnormal.
It's my new favorite word.
One of my friends whose career was in radio management said that the deejays at his stations invariably thought their repetitive plugs were way too many and just sure the public was over-saturated with it were always off the mark. He found that there was really no too much, when it comes to John Q Public. Let's keep going, and laughing while we are at it.
