just like Brazil, Argentina etc. America is part of this country's official name ... the United States of AMERICA. It bothered me too but when I took a college class on History of the America's my teacher made a big deal about it being our name etc etc. I try to keep my blood pressure down by not getting all worked up on stuff like that when there's a logical reason for it.
