I'm sorry, but the name of the country is the United States of America. "America" and "American" are merely variations of it. There is no Indo-European word to describe this continent -- all of them are arbitrary. Canada and Mexico chose to call themselves by names not including "America" in them. The only reason people carp about "America" now is because they like hating on us.
