He just said if you think hand guns make you safer, you might want to reconsider and if Belcher didn't have a gun, there's a good chance he and the mother of his 3 month old child would still be alive. Could he have strangled her or used a knife? Of course. But those require touching the victim. There's something about a gun that just makes it so easy. Nothing is as quick or as lethal. Here's the stats from the FBI on murders by method. 1/2 to 2/3 are by firearms, more than all other methods combined. Same goes for suicide - 60% by firearm, all other methods combined - hanging, poisoning, falling, etc - 40%. Over 20K accidental shootings a year (not all fatal).
