and slaughter a cow. We got the cow in the slaughterhouse chute okay --- and then it jumped over an eight foot wall (really!) and ran away across the range. So we went after it in an old pickup. The irrigator killed it with a 22 head shot. Now we were a mile or more from the slaughterhouse with a dead cow on the ground. Somehow, after gigantic efforts, we finally got the carcass up onto the truckbed and drove back to butcher it. Afterwards, very tired, I walked back to the dorm to change clothes and shower. That's when I learned Tricky Dick had resigned.The events of that afternoon always seemed oddly metaphorical
