Plains most famous resident has a birthday coming up, and the town is gearing up for the celebration of the century.
Former President Jimmy Carter turns 100 on Oct. 1, and Plains has prepared a day of live music in celebration of Carters life and legacy. The birthday celebration features performances from six artists and will be held at Plains High School, which Carter graduated from in 1941.
While there is a celebration taking place in Atlanta on Sept. 17, this celebration will be the only one in Georgia on the day of the presidents birthday, and the only one in Carters hometown.
Andrew Greer, a board member of The Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Park and one of the acts set to play the celebration, said it was important to host the celebration in Plains to honor the role the town has played in Carters life and presidency.
