(60,212 posts)I recently listened to a webinar done by two young ladies who are most assuredly not feminists. In fact, they're unapologetic supporters of biblical patriarchy. The topic of the webinar was "Reclaiming Beauty," and it was an attempt to define a new standard for modesty that doesn't involve denim jumpers or the librarian bun. The young women in their circles love Pinterest. They fill Pinterest with all kinds of feminine inspiration.
On the other hand, most of the feminists that I know are reconquering the DIY spirit. I know very few women who don't sew, knit, cross-stitch, or do something else.
Maybe it's because there was a generation there where it looked like these traditional female skills were a dying art. Or maybe it's because we're at a point now where a woman doesn't have to feel like she's betraying the sisterhood if she likes to make pretty things.
