protagonist, or one of her friends, carries a large purse that becomes part of the narrative. The first is the Jacqueline Kirby series by Elizabeth Peters. The second is the Miss Fortune Mysteries (which are an absolute hoot!) by Jana Deleon. The character with the purse of mystery is a woman of at least my age, a spy during the Vietnam War, now a retired teacher. Her purse can contain anything from a sandwich to glitter bombs to dynamite. If you like mysteries and laughs, you will enjoy these (there are at least 26 in the series).
Years ago, having heard "you have everything in there but the kitchen sink", I went to the hobby store doll house section, and got a darling little pedestal sink in its little shrink-wrapped package. The next time someone made the remark, I said, "ah, but you are wrong. I DO have the kitchen sink."
I do not need a walking stick at the moment, but am considering which of my staffs I might want to start using, my 5' or my 6' (which is a LOT heavier!!!).⁹ A friend was telling me about a class at Silver Sneakers about using canes as weapons.
