(5,762 posts)They were new to the West Coast, and we stopped off in our travels to try one. The windows and walls were covered with self-congratulatory propaganda, including one that proclaimed "We make 'em the way you like: juicy and well-done!" I was curious to see how they could do both. The answer was they can't. They conflate juicy and greasy.
The second-and-final time was when I was again out, was feeling low-blood-sugared and it was next-door to where it been shopping. When I ordered my burger I went to great lengths to make sure they left it the onions (major gastric distress inducing intolerance). When I got my burger and left, I discovered that while they had indeed left off the onions, they'd assembled the burger using the same spatulas they'd used to fry up the onions they use.
Now, as a former restaurant owner, I am sorry when anyone invests and loss their money, but I found it ironic that someone opened up a Five Guys across the street from the local mom-and-pop burger place in the small-but-larger-than-where-I-live town where my specialists work, a few years before the Pandemic. The Five Guys closed within a year (not due to COVID). Nipp's is still there.
