Race and gender.
The White Man's Pass.

A plurality of Americans give deference to those they perceive as powerful. The model of power for them is a rich white male fighting to preserve privilege for rich white males. The rapist is just that.

It's a richly American practice to give white men like trump the White Man's Pass. It's given by all elements of our society including (especially) the corporate press/media.
