1. gotta admit, it's more credible than the "greedy scientists" angle

For years, the deniers have been shopping this wacky idea that climatologists are creating a climate change hoax to gin up lucrative government research grants. Never mind that the money they'd get from shilling for the petrol industry dwarfs anything they could possibly get from the government, these greedy university bastards are in it for the money so don't trust 'em!

IMHO, Trump's China conspiracy theory is a step up from this. Still ridiculous, but at least there's a motive that could be plausible if you're a racist xenophobic climate-denying douchebag.
