We believed that a competent, well-qualified, experienced woman could defeat the most morally corrupt, inept, incompetent President any of us has seen in our lifetime. But apparently the majority of American voters believe someone who is totally lacking in any of the positive qualities necessary to hold the office of President is a better choice than a woman ... any woman ... period. We've been tricked into believing that we were gaining equality. But that "equality" we gained was what we were grudgingly given by the misogynists who really run this country. They gave us the right to work - and boy have we worked. Holding down jobs and sometimes multiple jobs to support our families and pay the bills - and the men in our lives gladly took our paychecks and deposited them into the joint checking accounts that they usually controlled. They gave us the "appearance" of equality, but when the time came for us to rise up and say it's a woman's turn, we were slapped down and told that they would NEVER elect a woman President of the United States. I, for one, am done working for THEIR benefit. We've made it easier on men across this country without having gained any of the power. Oh, a woman Representative, Senator or Governor will get elected here and there. But President? No freaking way. Other countries around the globe have elected female heads of state. But the US? Not a chance. The misogynists rose up and showed us who's really in power in this country. Girl power? Woman power? It's an illusion -- an illusion created by men to make us think we have power but really designed to get as much work out of us as they can get. I quit. If they want women to take a back seat then the men can carry the financial load and we'll go back to being stay-at-home Moms and ladies who lunch. Frankly I could use the rest.
I know this probably won't happen ... women will continue to strive for equality in pay, jobs, education, etc. But can anyone name any current female figure who could possibly win against the backlash we just faced? I can't. I know I sound bitter (and probably a little unhinged) ... I've never been filled with such despair.
