10. American Exceptionalism is a concept that tugs my heartstrings, even

if I know it’s not true. Seeing the lights of the City on a Hill go out again tears my heartstrings.

As for exceptionalism, current events in 2024-2025 America remind me of the sordid histories of other representative republics that self-destructed when their voters chose to follow a strongman.

I suspect some of the minds behind Trump’s second coming know this too. That’s probably why they want to drastically curtail immigration: a lot of would-be immigrants come from countries where this sort of (excrement) happened before and they don’t want naive Trump-voting American Anglos getting intellectual awakenings.
