In reply to the discussion: Joint statement by the Heads of Government of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Poland, and Sweden [View all]Emrys
(8,897 posts)37. As a European, I'm pleased to see it
Trump obviously has no idea what he's talking about in terms of NATO and its funding, but there's little point in complaining about the US's overbearing role in security and serving its own interests while relying on it as some sort of policeman, so it's good to see other nations taking on a more active role.
I'd expect this initiative to be backed by the UK, France and most of the EU countries, but someone has to lead the way. I hope actions live up to the rhetoric, but in this current limbo while everyone's waiting for the US's first moves under Trump, rhetoric itself does have an important role to play.

OP
If the choice is between NATO on one side and the Republican Party and Trump on the other. I'll go with NATO every time.

That's what struck me, the fact that they even had to make this statement as that group.
Think. Again.

His nomination of Kellogg as special envoy is one of the more credible Trump's made.

This is perfect. It is exactly what I had hoped for if not a little more, given this "mision statement" that is....
