In reply to the discussion: Steve Bannon Is Already Setting the Stage for a Third Trump Term [View all]Fiendish Thingy
(23,449 posts)He decrees himself dictator for life isnt a third term, its a coup, and would collapse both the US and world economy, if somehow it succeeded (likely only with the support of the military.
More likely, any such attempt would result in Hegseth, Patel, etc. getting shot in the face by a military duty bound to follow only lawful orders.
A true third term would require Trump being placed on the ballot, at age 82, in all 50 states. There would be numerous court challenges, and if this SCOTUS were to rule Trump was allowed to run and serve again, they would be saying, in essence, the black letter law of the constitution is meaningless, and we are powerless.
Alito and Thomas might go along with that scenario, but I dont see Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett voluntarily ending their careers and giving up their powers to one man- they havent been willing to do so before (the immunity ruling is not the same as ruling a limit of two terms is in fact not a limit of two terms).
Trumps presidency will end no later than January 20, 2029. JDs tech bro overlords have other plans in mind, and they dont include Trump.
