If you dumped them and replaced them with a similar "chat-couple" that would actually practice journalism, they would not be missed and their ratings might improve.

Actually, they're not on half the time anyway (they take more vacation time than Johnny Carson) so if they simply never returned from vacation, few would notice or care.
