(42 posts)Amendment 2 - The Right To Bear Arms
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Notes for this amendment:
Proposed 9/25/1789
Ratified 12/15/1791"
Please inform me where in this amendment does it say anything about the acquisition of ammunition....because there isn't anything. One of the magazines people who love guns is called Guns and Ammo, which means that they see the two as being separate. So, if the Second Amendment does not include any language allowing for the acquisition, sale, or purchase of ammunition, the solution is simple:
Ammunition should not be allowed for purchase or sale.
Yes, I do understand that selling guns, but not allowing ammunition to be sold is like selling cars and banning gas stations. Unless you're a hunter, police officer, or in the military, you shouldn't need to have a gun. There are a large number of gun owners in the United States who have purchased guns to protect themselves. The majority of them have never been victims of violent crime. This is the result of living in a culture of fear, where you are to fear your neighbor instead of loving your neighbor.
For those who want to point out that I am wrong, or that I should shut my mouth and go back under that rock I crawled out from under, I will provide this little tidbit, something a lot of people seem to have forgotten...
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Notes for this amendment:
Proposed 9/25/1789
Ratified 12/15/1791,
That's Amendment 1, ratified the same day that the Right to Bear Arms was. You have the right to own your gun...I have the right to say you shouldn't have ammunition for it.
Rant over. Good night all, and my thoughts are with the families of the victims.
