Trudeau wanted to desperately stay on, but the Liberal Party pushed him out. He's not running away from Trump. He should have left 3 years ago to give the Liberals a fighting chance in the upcoming election. His narcissism wouldn't let him quit until the last minute, and even then people had to scream it at him to quit, as there is no way he was going to win another election. I vote NDP, democratic-socialist (I ran for the NDP federally in the 2015 election) so I would rather the Liberals and Conservatives didn't win any elections, as both are deeply in the pockets of corporate Canada/America. That being said, I would want the Liberals to beat the Conservatives in any election, especially with the present Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, who is a straight up Project 2025er.

Trudeau should have resigned after he won his second minority government in a row in 2021. But the reason people don't like him was the reason he couldn't quit, his delusion of grandeur. And just like the US, Canada has forgotten how awful things were under the Conservative (Trump) government. With Trudeau gone, the Liberals will have a chance of winning the next election, if not, hopefully the NDP.
