(97 posts)Throwing around "facism" like it's confetti at a parade makes it tough for folks to take us seriously. When every policy disagreement or political move gets branded as facist, the term loses its punch. It's like crying wolf; soon enough, no one's gonna care when the real wolf shows up.
And let's be honest, the vast majority of politicans and reporters have dialed back on calling Donald Trump a facist. Why? Maybe because it's been overused to the point of absurdity. At first, it might've seemed like a wake-up call, but now? It's just background noise. Even when there are legitimate concerns about authoritarian tendancies or democratic backsliding, the label "facist" has become so diluted that it barely registers. This overuse has led to a media and political landscape where significant issues are dismissed because the rhetoric is too extreme or too commonplace to resonate anymore.
If we want to talk about real threats to democrasy, we need to be precise, not sensational. Otherwise, we're just shouting into the void, and no one's listening anymore.
