(37 posts)I don't own guns and will never own guns. I despise all lobbyists and the NRA is high on the list. However this country is caught between a rock and a hard place. The supreme court is not going to rule that the 2nd amendment does not grant a right to own firearms. The only recourse then is heavy regulation, renewing the assault weapons ban or repealing the 2nd amendment. You and I both know that this isn't a blue vs red state issue. There are more than a few blue states that have a hunting population. Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire to name 2. Ratification requires a 38 state nod. This isn't the presidential election. California's vote is the same as Wyoming. I hope the assault weapon ban is renewed and I hope guns are made more difficult to aquire. They aren't going away though and no amount of hope and pray will change this sad fact. There is a huge black market for weapon sales. We have two coasts, 2 gigantic borders and one neighbor who have a criminal culture which trades in human life on a daily basis. At the end of the day this is far more about the perpetuation of a culture of violence. The value of human life in this country is low; guns just provide an easy means to commit murder. Yes, they are a problem. Yes, the NRA is a fucking scum bag organization. Banning lobbyists would be fantastic. Getting the money out of Washington would be a huge step forward... On BOTH Sides. However, legislation will not solve our culture of violence. NO, that needs to begin in the homes and in the schools. Unfortunately, we have far too many assholes who have no business raising children bringing up demon spawn. We have men outside the home with little to no interaction with their children. We have schools with teachers who shouldn't be there. So yes, my heart was broken yesterday. I cried while watching the president tear up. We need a cultural wake up and guns are just one part of that equation.
