(8,300 posts)You are right, we need other voices besides Rachel to do this work. And yes I wish she had talked about Yarvin before the debate. She should cover the tech bros and their history, the way she covered ULTRA and the history of previous insurrections and Henry Ford supporting Hitler.
I don't know how we beat the GOP and their vast media/social media propaganda machine..We need to figure that out quickly. Perhaps Hollywood should get more involved with churning out positive propaganda?? From movies to documentaries - people like to be entertained. Which is probably why trump is well liked by many and why people will get their news from Joe Rogan and Shannon Sharpe.
In the 80's there were a ton of movies that depicted Russian bad guys, which subconsciously reinforced our belief that Russia was the enemy. Then the Hollywood villains shifted to Middle Eastern bad guys, and Hollywood made a ton of films about Middle Eastern terrorists. Perhaps it's time to start making films and documentaries, series about the tech bros.
Spielberg bought the rights to Rachel's Ultra Podcast, so there will be a movie at some point. Movies take a long time to make. It would be nice if there were shorter series that took this on.
The article I posted reads like blueprint for a movie script. Successful doctor packs up his family to move to South Africa to be a part of the Apartheid movement. In 1936 he wanted to destroy democracy and thought technocrats should rule. Almost 100 years later his grandson seems to be on the same path.
I thought the series Watchmen was amazing - It was the first time many Americans found out about the Tulsa Massacre- A similar series should be done to take this on. Not only did it take on the Tulsa Massacre, but in so many ways it exposed the white supremacy often entrenched in police departments and in " high society". When I saw the picture of the crowd reacting to Musk's nazi salute, I immediately thought of a scene in Watchmen with all the high society folks that had their secret meetings. The folks shown in that pic applauding and cheering, were not poor folks.
Of course, that does not replace serious journalism. But anything to get people talking and engaging about some of these things. Too many are disengaged and don't see the danger we are in.
I've also wondered how Maye got her green card. She went on a rant about how people should do it the right way and she got hers due to her years of hard work and special knowledge, or something to that effect. Excuse me? Special knowledge? I am not demeaning dietitians, but it seems like Maye, Melania and Elon gamed the system and then claim they did it the right way.
