Well, knock on wood, I haven't had an at fault accident in 36 years and I have driven several million miles since then, so I would say my opinion can be factored in, even if anecdotally.

I can think of one time a seat belt mattered in an accident that I was personally involved in... Again, my mother and I were on Interstate 40 and a car came across the median at the Oak Ridge/Lenoir City exit...The guy had a junky Toyota truck with bald tires and it had been raining...He lost control and flipped across the median into our path. Totalled my mom's car and the truck as well.

I had a seat belt on and only had some abrasions from the airbag...My mom was wearing no seat belt and she also suffered some abrasions from her sairbag, but she hit her head slightly on the rear view mirror. We both walked away.
