67. Conservatives are more frightened

Despite appearances to the contrary on DU, the hardcore pro-gun position has traditionally been a conservative one. The NRA is basically a Republican organization. Conservatives have long seemed to me to be a terrified bunch of people. We're probably all familiar with the many scientific studies that have born that out in the last few years. Here's just one article among many on the subject:

After 911 people in states and communities that were very unlikely to be hit by terrorist attacks remained terrified by the prospect, while the majority of people who lived in close proximity to the attacks that had actually happened were able to move on and did not support things like attacking random countries that hadn't attacked us.

People who are both scared and armed seem rather dangerous to me. Seems like a bad combination.
