It was to provide an example of the type of thinking seen in many anti-gun control arguments: that since there are too many guns and gun owners to ever hope to enforce a law restricting their ownership, we may as well shrug our shoulders in defeat about creating such laws to begin with.

They must agree to apply that reasoning in other circumstances as well or admit they simply have a problem with authority.
