(1,664 posts)LBJ won it overwhelmingly in 1964. That was the last time for a Democrat, I believe. The last time it was even close was the '90s, when Clinton barely lost the white vote.
I am not interested in winning the white vote per se, but rather poor and working-class white voters. The trend toward Trump apparently being the party of working people and Democrats being the party of elites is a sad development, though in reality it's not much different from blue collar people, unions, etc., voting for Reagan in overwhelming numbers. Cultural grievances, concerns about "getting the government off our back." Some things never change.
I will say this, though: We just lost another election to Donald fucking Trump. The Democratic Party is clearly doing something wrong. We ignore the points John Fetterman is making at our own peril.
