145. Some bases get hit all the time (several times/wk) some don't

Some bases get hit several times a week with anything from actual rockets/mortars to small arms fire & insurgent rushes. Heck, I can think of a select few where it's not uncommon to be on the receiving end of incoming multiple times in one day. Generally your tough FOBs are along the east near the Pak border. A number of areas in the southern provinces are rough too.

And other bases simply don't get much trouble. They might get a few indirect mortar fire or something else random maybe once a month or something. Generally, that is a cupcake base. Although to truly be a cupcake base, you need to have decent amenities onhand too. Some FOBs aren't too active with insurgency, but you have guys showering with bottled water, living in small tents, and eating MREs... in that instance, while it's not good living/eating - it's nice that you don't get all jumpy/nervous all the time.

When I read that he puts tape on his magazine, the below pic immediately came to mind...
I mean, really... purposefully introducing foreign debris into the action of your weapon?!? My head almost exploded.
