Both were inherited. And I appreciate the craftsmanship in both of them immensely.
I use the revolver for target shooting only and don't take it out of its locked case anywhere away from the range, except to clean it occasionally. I don't keep any ammo in the house, I don't even know where to get ammo for the saddle rifle - it's 100+ years old, takes a discontinued size and I find most of the vendors at gun shows to be really creepy.
I've thought seriously about getting a shotgun for protection while camping, and also maybe getting a .357 revolver. The .357 would only be because I enjoy target shooting and would like to try something that made a bigger bang. But I have much bigger priorities in my life.
