The son of a poor man in Charleston, South Carolina, he arrived virtually penniless in Boston looking to “git eddicated.” He worked his way through college as a janitor, and I don’t even want to imagine what that entailed in 1912. But he faced his obstacles, and got through them.

Don’t anyone tell that boy that he can’t. If anyone tries, kick them in the shins, and when they cry out, stuff their mouth with turkey pasta.
