(14,912 posts)Because what you are actually saying is that gun nuts owners don't really fear anything, we are just exercising our 2nd Amendment RIGHT to keep and bear arms, and non-gun owners fear us, or guns, more than we fear "every fucking thing"! Therefore, I am in agreement that I am SICK of the COWARDICE AND IGNORANCE of the anti-gunners. It's common for people to fear that which they don't understand...
That being said, yes, this was a VERY TRAGIC occurrence, but one that *could* have been avoided by the mother of a mentally disturbed son NOT having guns in her home.
We have an average of 40 murders per day in the US, which covers ALL categories: shootings, stabbings, strangulations, beaten to death with bare hands, being run down with a vehicle, etc. The thing is, you only hear about the one or two in your area, on your local news... until a tragedy like this happens. Then it becomes national news.
This is where I have to agree with the statement by Morgan Freeman that the media is partly to blame. I am going to be paraphrasing here, but it basically boils down to the media sensationalizing these events and focusing for days on end about the perpetrator, giving them their (usually post mortem) 15 minutes of fame. It also gives other sick individuals ideas of what *they* can do to top the last one, making themselves the center of attention all across the nation, making that poor, pitiful nobody into SOMEBODY PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER, even though they are dead and can't even get any "enjoyment" of that "fame" or "infamy".
The media should totally ignore the perpetrator, not even mentioning his/her name, and focus on the tragedy of the innocent victims. If they mention the perp at all, they should only use words like "sick, twisted psychopath" or "mentally unstable lunatic" or words of that sort, so others who have these thoughts just *might* change their minds and just kill themselves instead of being remembered as that "sick, twisted maniac who shot up a school, mall, movie theater or whatever.
EVERY innocent life taken is tragic, but it is NOT just gun nuts owners who are doing the killings...
Peace within, Peace between, Peace among.....
