I totally agree with you. There are literally millions of Americans who are living SSI/SSDI month to month. These people (including me) are getting roughly $500-$2000 per month. I'd challenge every one of those that responded to your post if they could live on that.

They can conveniently use "averages" in total benefits to mask the fact that there is a huge statistical tail of people that are dying at the left of that tail.
