My wife and I don't have cable, satellite, or broadcast television. Currently we only watch DVDs and no-advertising Netflix. We read all our news.
DU is my only social media and I use the "auto-trash by keyword" function here extensively. "Trump" is one of my auto-trash words. I also ignore certain people here, especially those who seem to be promoting all these feelings of hopelessness.
Sometimes it seems the sole purpose of television and social media is to induce anxiety.
I've got some experience surviving mental health issues. My own mind went a little sideways in adolescence and young adulthood and I experienced some periods of homelessness and dangerous living situations. Eventually I managed to build a social safety net for myself of friends and family, and I was able to claw most of my mind back. (Meds are helpful.) Fear of homelessness is no longer a deep worry of mine. Been there, done that, and I'm no longer the sort of person who flees a place, burning all bridges behind me. I'm not the kid, as my siblings recall it, who punched our dad in the face and vanished into the night.
