(56,206 posts)4. We are, for now, not a democracy.
We have a government that is clearly not acting in the general interests of the people. Their policies are generally unpopular and the people certainly didn't vote for musk's sledgehammer destruction of the government's full faith and credit.
Authoritarian regimes have numerous ways of winning elections, so even if one thinks the election was "fair", democracy isn't about having a fair election. Democracy is about having a government that acts in a way that is responsive to the people. This government is not.
The question is whether or not we can get it back or if we are stuck in an authoritarian model for decades.
