(15,066 posts)22. Beef tallow is actually reasonably healthy for omnivores.
Healthier than lard or butter, and has a higher burn point, allowing for crispier frying.
Not vegetarian, of course, but easily the equivalent of peanut or avocado oil in terms of health and taste. Frying food isn't the healthiest option for preparation as it is. Certainly not as healthy as a crudite option.
I honestly don't see how it can be political other than politicians wanting to make it political.
On edit - old timers can remember McD's fries were originally fried in beef tallow until Hindus, vegetarians and vegans complained that McDonald's was committing fraud for claiming fries as a vegetable serving when asked what could be eaten that wasn't beef or another meat product.

Haven't been to one since before COVID. They now have no service and their menu was pared down to a few items.
