I signed up for login.gov last August. It was no hassle then. Recently I have changed my email address, and changing it there was also no hassle.

I don't remember being asked for a photo ID then, but I do keep jpgs of my drivers license, front and back , on a portable hard drive at all times, along with other important documents, so they might have asked and I might have just uploaded.

But it does sound like it's changing. Glad I did it then.
