Trump is a perfect nihilist for whom power is an end in itself. His confidence in his own ability is limitless; the only truth he knows is what he happens to think. Nothing else really matters. And what good is it to be “the most powerful man in the world” if you don’t actually demonstrate that power? As a nihilist, he doesn’t care if power is used for Good or for Evil and it's easier to destroy than to build; he just wants maximum effect. The more shocking, the better. He wants every person on Earth, but especially his followers, to say, “Look what Trump just did!”.
