7. That gun crime may be down over a long stretch doesn't mean it is under control

Perhaps you can accept hundreds of gun murders every year in a city like Chicago and say, ho hum, it's not "out of control" because it's a downward trend over 30 years. I disagree: it's an epidemic and absolutely out of control. "Not really 'out of control,'" you say? Come to Chicago and go hang out for a few days in Austin, in West Englewood, in East Garfield Park and tell me about how your nice narrative of decline in rates means gun violence is "under control." It's not. It's out of control. I stand by my point. Your additional narrative about gentrification is equally beside the point.
