Exactly correct. We are not in normal times.

1) Unpopularity will not leverage the fascist party back to democracy.

2) Given what I have read, the leverage being held on these bootlickers ranges from being popular and "one of the guys," swearing an oath of loyalty, God's vison, big money, gambling debt, threats against family, drugs, porn, pedophilia, compromising videotape and other evidence or the appearance of hard evidence, loss of positional power, rape, fraud, possibly murder, death threats, and crimes of treason, I'm not sure what strategic leverage we can muster that would overcome this cemented in fascist bloc.

I think they are committed to the enterprise and though they are having many losses, they are winning a lot too.

We will know they were unpopular AFTER they have all been thrown out of elected office, off of corporate boards, and out of CEO chairs!
