(2,561 posts)Ive seen PIER 39 built into tourist Mecca.
Ive seen the once SF wharf of few shops, turn into retail hell.
Full of trinkets stuff.
There at one time was lots of ART work retail stores,
Nicer stores, nicer crowds. and quirky street entertainment
Street entertainment that one really really enjoyed.
The steam of the cooking crab,
The street food, relatively inexpensive.
But then the CRAPPY stuff invaded.
Cheap and cheaper crap being hawked at retail stores,
The McDonalds crowds, not to sit-down nice restaurant types.
Too many shitty cheap restaurants
But still Scomas SF remained,
Aliotos demise was the final nail in the street area retail going from
The famous SF Wharf sign, west down to the Maritime Museum.
And the shuttered restaurants and shops on that street ,
Essentially from Boudin SF, down the street to Hyde Street Pier
And the homeless surge.
WELL MAYBE ITS AN EXAGGERATION TO SAY ITS ALL BOARDED UP
There are still retail shops and some restaurants on that street
